At that time, even when life was difficult, Pastor Jung Myung Seok would always prepare himself thoroughly when going to worship before God. Although he had only one set of clothes, he would press his tie before wearing it. Back then, there weren’t even irons, so I don’t know how he managed it, but he would come to church looking neat and well-kept, and it was truly admirable to see.
On Sundays, when coming down for worship, Pastor Jung would dress impeccably in a suit with his tie neatly in place. I often saw him holding his Bible upright in front of him, almost like a mirror, reading it as he walked down.
Even during breaks or when resting for a moment while working somewhere quiet, while others might spend the time chatting or talking about worldly things, Pastor Jung would always meditate on the Word, reading it with full devotion to God’s words and spreading them. That’s how we always saw him.
Pastor Jung would carry his Bible whenever he walked somewhere. He always kept it by his side or in front of him, reading it and preaching according to the Scriptures… it was a very confident and assured image.
At that time, Pastor Jung’s personal circumstances were difficult. Yet, when there were people in Geumsan who were sick or had mental illnesses, he would bring them in, wash their hair to make them clean, groom their appearance, and even personally cook meals for them. Even though his own family was struggling to make ends meet, he had a beautiful heart that was willing to give to others.
